SPOKANE, WA (April 9, 2013) – The Spokane Shock (3-0) take on the Arizona Rattlers (3-0) for their first division matchup and home opener on April 12th at Spokane Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, April 12th at 7:00 PM PST and will be available for viewing online at shock.arenafootball.com/allaccess and on 700AM ESPN Radio.

After a 66-43 win against the Iowa Barnstormers on Friday, the Shock start the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2009 af2 season.  Erik Meyer continued his offensive tear completing 24 of 34 with 330 yards and 9 TDs (personal record) giving Meyer 24 total touchdown passes on the season. Both Kamar Jorden and Adron Tennell had over 120 yards receiving and 3 TD receptions.

Spokane’s defense kept up their high level of play forcing 5 total turnovers in Iowa. Terrance Sanders and Marc Schiechl each had an interception. Sanders also had a forced fumble which was recovered by Patrick Stoudamire. They also had two fourth down stops.

“We played well through some tough situations. We had a lot of injuries and guys did a great job of filling in and playing out of position. I’m very proud of this group for going 3-0 on the road. It’s not easy to stay focused for three road games in a row. We have a big test coming up next week against the Arizona Rattlers…Spokane here we come,” said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson.

Defending Arenabowl Champions the Arizona Rattlers also start the season 3-0 and come into Spokane after a 73-47 win over the San Jose Sharks. QB Nick Davila spread the ball around on Saturday completeing 13 of 22 attempts with 231 yards and 6 TDs and connected with 4 of the 5 receivers for at least one touchdown.

So far this season Adron Tennell is leading the Shock WR core with over 300 yards and 10 TDs while rookie Kamar Jorden is making a name for himself ranked second on the team with 239 yards and 6 TDs.  In the first three games of the season the defense has tallied 6 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions and an impressive 5 fourth down stops.  For Arizona, the loss of WR Maurice Purify last week could benefit the Shock secondary not having to worry about one of the league’s top five overall receivers from the 2012 season. Although, with the addition of WR Tysson Poots this season who spent last year with West Division rival Utah, Arizona is still picked as a league favorite.

This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams with the overall record tied 4-4.  Having both teams coming into this week with undefeated records big playoff implications will come out of Spokane after Friday’s matchup.

During their first meeting in 2012 at Arizona, the Shock led the game 53-50 with over a minute to play and the ball on the Arizona 5 yard line. For the second time in the game the snap was fumbled and Arizona recovered.  Davila completed 20 passes including the game winning TD pass to Kerry Reed with five seconds left. While the first game of the year was tight until the end, the second half of the season did not fair quite as well for the Shock. Arizona jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Shock QB Kyle Rowley went 29 of 45 on his passes with 303 yards, 5 TDs but had 5 INTs and could not keep up with the high producing AZ offense resulting in the Shock losing 61-35.
